Structural Health Monitoring

Structural health monitoring (SHM) is the future of the inspection field. SHM technologies offer real-time or periodic monitoring of the condition of a structure, such as a pipeline, a bridge, a storage tank, etc. In most SHM applications, the sensor is left in place on the structure throughout its service life. SHM offers the ability to monitor structural changes such as corrosion growth, cracking, and material property changes that would be more difficult to detect using traditional NDT methods.

Structural health monitoring opportunities exist for a wide range of engineered structures, and guided waves can often provide a cost-effective solution for such applications.

Guided waves systems are an excellent candidate for SHM applications due to their ability to cover large areas of structures from a single probe position. Guidedwave offers SHM technologies such as tomographic monitoring and permanent-mount magnetostrictive pipeline monitoring collars.

Guidedwave offers collars for permanent sensor mounting on buried pipelines.
